Fighting Depression
One of the very best things you can do when you feel drained of emotional energy, feeling depressed, down and out, suffering from the blues, feelings of low self esteem etc is to take on some exercise. Whilst not saying that all people that suffer from depression do not exercise or that only unfit individuals suffer from depression, exercise is a very positive thing to do for the mind, body and spirit, although of course this approach is not a one size fits all, model. For some, exercise is out of the question, but in the majority of cases, exercise really can help you on the road towards starting to feel more positive about yourself. According to Armand DiMele of the DiMele Center for Psychotherapy, “three quarters of people would find that their mood is lifted through exercise.” Others likewise concur their agreement on this, that to fight depression takes a multi pronged approach and exercise is a very positive thing for anyone with depressive feelings to consider taking up on a regular schedule. Proper rest and good natural sleep are also vital to combating depression successfully.
Some mildly depressed individuals are helped by setting aside time every day for conducting exercise and physical activities that they especially enjoy. One of the best sources of exercise to combat depression, fight depression is something that the majority of us take for granted, going for a good brisk walk. Another very useful and constructive way to fight depression is by getting creative. Take up a new hobby, painting for example whilst not exactly very hard work from an exercise point of view, is nevertheless proactively tackling your depressive feelings by giving you focus to draw your emotions out by giving them voice on the canvas. There are many other creative avenues you could try too.
Sometimes, all that is needed to control depression and nurture within more positive feelings is a change in your pace of life. For some people, they may at times need to speed things up a little bit whilst for other people, slowing down their lifestyle can assist towards the fight against depression. For others it can be a change of diet, eating foods which nourish not only the body but also the mind and the emotions or your spiritual self. Yet, what to do if the depressing thoughts and depressing feels continue to linger, what can you do then, to help get your mind and your perception of life back into a balanced state of being?
